Now, whenever you download a file with that extension, your computer will know what to do. Scroll down to “Open with”, select EndNote, and then click “Change All…”. Permanent solution: Open your Downloads folder and right click on the downloaded file. Temporary solution: Click “Choose Application” -> EndNote x8 -> EndNote x8 “When I download citations, the computer says it doesn’t have an application to open that type of file!” Open up System Preferences, then Security & Privacy, navigate to the General tab, and click “Open Anyway”.
